Most cancer tissues exhibited moderate to strong cytoplasmic positivity. The majority of thyroid, head and neck cancers were weakly stained or negative.
Prostate cancers, hepatocellular carcinomas and carcinoids along with a few colorectal, breast and ovarian cancers showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. A single case of papillary adenocarcinoma of thyroid was strongly stained. Remaining cancer tissues were generally negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
SARDH (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
DMGDHL1, SDH
Description
Sarcosine dehydrogenase (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes an enzyme localized to the mitochondrial matrix which catalyzes the oxidative demethylation of sarcosine. This enzyme is distinct from another mitochondrial matrix enzyme, dimethylglycine dehydrogenase, which catalyzes a reaction resulting in the formation of sarcosine. Mutations in this gene are associated with sarcosinemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]
