HPA (normal tissue):
Tissue enhanced (parathyroid gland)
Protein evidence
Evidence at protein level
Protein expression normal tissue
Cytoplasmic expression in a few tissues. Distinct positivity in plasma.
ANTIBODY IHC RELIABILITY
Data reliability description
Secreted protein, tissue location of RNA and protein might differ and correlation is complex. Antibody staining in cells/structures not annotated, view images.
A few lymphomas and rare cases of pancreatic and urothelial cancers displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Remaining cancer tissues were in general negative.
Most cancer tissues showed moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Strong nuclear staining was observed in renal carcinomas. Reed Steinberg cells in Hodgkin’s lymphoma were strongly stained.

Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes tissue-type plasminogen activator, a secreted serine protease which converts the proenzyme plasminogen to plasmin, a fibrinolytic enzyme. Tissue-type plasminogen activator is synthesized as a single chain which is cleaved by plasmin to a two chain disulfide linked protein. This enzyme plays a role in cell migration and tissue remodeling. Increased enzymatic activity causes hyperfibrinolysis, which manifests as excessive bleeding; decreased activity leads to hypofibrinolysis which can result in thrombosis or embolism. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
