Occasional cases of colorectal and basal cell carcinomas of skin displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and nuclear immunoreactivity. Remaining malignant cells were weakly stained or negative.
Occasional cases of gastric, colorectal, pancreatic cancers and a few cases of basal cell carcinomas of skin showed moderate cytoplasmic staining. A single case of ovarian cancer and a fraction of cancer cells in carcinoid displayed strong positivity. Remaining cancers were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
SULT1E1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
EST, STE
Description
Sulfotransferase family 1E, estrogen-preferring, member 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
Sulfotransferase enzymes catalyze the sulfate conjugation of many hormones, neurotransmitters, drugs, and xenobiotic compounds. These cytosolic enzymes are different in their tissue distributions and substrate specificities. The gene structure (number and length of exons) is similar among family members. This gene encodes a protein that transfers a sulfo moiety to and from estrone, which may control levels of estrogen receptors. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
