Strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity was observed in thyroid cancers and some endometrial and liver cancers. Several other adenocarcinomas were moderately stained. Most tumors were however negative.
Most hepatocellular carcinomas and breast cancers along with several endometrial, thyroid and lung cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and nuclear positivity. Remaining malignancies were in general weakly stained or negative.
Most malignancies were weakly stained or negative. Few cases of colorectal, breast, prostate, endometrial and thyroid cancers showed moderate positivity.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
SELENBP1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
hSBP, hSP56, LPSB
Description
Selenium binding protein 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the selenium-binding protein family. Selenium is an essential nutrient that exhibits potent anticarcinogenic properties, and deficiency of selenium may cause certain neurologic diseases. The effects of selenium in preventing cancer and neurologic diseases may be mediated by selenium-binding proteins, and decreased expression of this gene may be associated with several types of cancer. The encoded protein may play a selenium-dependent role in ubiquitination/deubiquitination-mediated protein degradation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012]
