Most malignancies showed weak nuclear positivity, often only in a small fraction of the cells. Malignant gliomas and urothelial cancers showed strong staining in a few cases. Some glioma, urothelial, renal and pancreatic cancers were moderately stained.
Most cancer tissues showed moderate to strong nuclear positivity with additional cytoplasmic staining in breast, liver prostate and testis cancers. Renal cell carcinomas were weakly stained or negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
MSH2 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
COCA1, HNPCC, HNPCC1
Description
MutS homolog 2 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This locus is frequently mutated in hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (HNPCC). When cloned, it was discovered to be a human homolog of the E. coli mismatch repair gene mutS, consistent with the characteristic alterations in microsatellite sequences (RER+ phenotype) found in HNPCC. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012]
