Papillary carcinoma of thyroid, few cases of colorectal, testicular, urothelial and liver cancers were strongly stained. Majority of the cases of malignant lymphomas, lung, skin, pancreatic, cervical, ovarian and prostate cancers were negative.

Malignant tissues were generally negative. Papillary adenocarcinomas of thyroid exhibited moderate to strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity while several cases of stomach and hepatocellular carcinomas showed moderate cytoplasmic staining.

A cytosolic form of this protein is encoded by a different gene and is the key enzyme of gluconeogenesis in the liver. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
