Most cancer tissues showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity in cases combined with nuclear positivity. A majority of breast, prostate, cervical, ovarian, stomach, pancreatic and liver cancers were weakly stained or negative.
Most normal tissues showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic and nuclear positivity. Few breast cancers, gliomas and occasional lung cancers exhibited strong immunoreactivity. Several liver, stomach, colorectal and few testicular cancers were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
BLVRA (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
BLVR
Description
Biliverdin reductase A (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the biliverdin reductase family, members of which catalyze the conversion of biliverdin to bilirubin in the presence of NADPH or NADH. Mutations in this gene are associated with hyperbiliverdinemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]
