Malignant tissues showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining in most cases. Additional nucleolar staining was also seen in many cases. Strong cytoplasmic staining was seen in most colorectal cancers. Most renal cancers were negative.
Weak to moderate cytoplasmic staining in a granular pattern was observed in a majority of malignancies. A few cases of endometrial cancers were strongly stained. Several skin and testicular cancers were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
TPH1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
TPH, TPRH
Description
Tryptophan hydroxylase 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the aromatic amino acid hydroxylase family. The encoded protein catalyzes the first and rate limiting step in the biosynthesis of serotonin, an important hormone and neurotransmitter. Mutations in this gene have been associated with an elevated risk for a variety of diseases and disorders, including schizophrenia, somatic anxiety, anger-related traits, bipolar disorder, suicidal behavior, addictions, and others.[provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009]
