Cytoplasmic expression in neuroendocrine cells, islets of Langerhans and heart muscle.
ANTIBODY IHC RELIABILITY
Data reliability description
Antibody staining mainly consistent with RNA expression data. Secreted protein, tissue location of RNA and protein might differ and correlation is complex.
Several carcinoids and endometrial cancers along with a few cases of lung and renal cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining. Remaining tumour tissues were weakly stained or negative.
Most tumour cells were negative. A few cases of endometrial cancer as well as one case of carcinoid and cervical cancer respectively showed distinct cytoplasmic positivity.
This gene encodes a multifunctional protein. It has two enzymatically active domains with catalytic activities - peptidylglycine alpha-hydroxylating monooxygenase (PHM) and peptidyl-alpha-hydroxyglycine alpha-amidating lyase (PAL). These catalytic domains work sequentially to catalyze neuroendocrine peptides to active alpha-amidated products. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene but some of their full length sequences are not yet known.
