Moderate to strong cytoplasmic and nuclear immunoreactivity was displayed in several cases of glioma, colorectal, breast, ovarian, thyroid and pancreatic cancers. Several cases of prostate, urothelial and gastric cancers showed moderate positivity. Remaining cancers were weakly stained or negative.
A few cases of ovarian, thyroid, breast, pancreatic and urothelial cancers exhibited weak to moderate immunoreactivity. Remaining malignant cells were mainly negative.
Most renal cancers and a few cases of urothelial cancers expressed moderate cytoplasmic staining. Remaining malignant cells were either negative or weakly stained.
The protein encoded by this gene phosphorylates vitamin B6, a step required for the conversion of vitamin B6 to pyridoxal-5-phosphate, an important cofactor in intermediary metabolism. The encoded protein is cytoplasmic and probably acts as a homodimer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined.
