Most cancers showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Rare case of urothelial cancer showed strong cytoplasmic positivity. A single case of breast cancer showed strong cytoplasmic and membranous positivity. Pancreatic, endometrial and prostate cancers were weakly stained or negative.
Few melanomas, ovarian cancers, carcinoids, squamous cell carcinomas of cervix and embryonal carcinomas showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Remaining cancer tissues were in general negative.

Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes an oxygen-binding protein that is distantly related to members of the globin gene family. It is highly conserved among other vertebrates. It is expressed in the central and peripheral nervous system where it may be involved in increasing oxygen availability and providing protection under hypoxic/ischemic conditions.
