A subset of tumor cells in rare cases of endometrial and ovarian cancers along with a single case of duct carcinoma of breast showed moderate cytoplasmic staining. Rare cases of gliomas displayed moderate to strong positivity. A single case of renal cancers exhibited moderate nucleolar staining. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.
Fraction of tumor cells in few cases of endometrial and prostate cancers along with rare cases of glioma, cervical cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.

The proteins of this family are thought to be involved in microtubule assembly, which is an essential step in neurogenesis. The product of this gene is a precursor polypeptide that presumably undergoes proteolytic processing to generate the final MAP1A heavy chain and LC2 light chain. Expression of this gene is almost exclusively in the brain. Studies of the rat microtubule-associated protein 1A gene suggested a role in early events of spinal cord development.
