Most of the cancer cells displayed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity with additional nuclear staining in a few tissues. Prostate, thyroid and liver cancers along with several cases of colorectal, testicular, ovarian, endometrial and stomach cancers were strongly stained. Several lymphomas, skin and cervical cancers were negative.
Prostate cancers and papillary adenocarcinomas of thyroid along with several lung adenocarcinomas, colorectal, ovarian, endometrial and pancreatic cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining. A few cases of melanomas, renal, liver and urothelial cancer showed moderate positivity. Remaining cancer cells were generally negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
PCCA
Synonyms
Description
Propionyl CoA carboxylase, alpha polypeptide (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
The protein encoded by this gene is the alpha subunit of the heterodimeric mitochondrial enzyme Propionyl-CoA carboxylase. PCCA encodes the biotin-binding region of this enzyme. Mutations in either PCCA or PCCB (encoding the beta subunit) lead to an enzyme deficiency resulting in propionic acidemia. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010]
