Cancer tissues showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity, additional membranous and nuclear staining was observed in a few cases. Thyroid cancers and a few cases of breast cancers showed strong cytoplasmic staining. Several prostate, liver, renal and urothelial cancers were negative.
Cancer cells were generally negative. Several gastric cancers along with a few cases of colorectal, breast, thyroid, urothelial, renal and pancreatic cancers displayed moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity.

Selenoprotein M (EntrezGene)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a selenoprotein, which contains a selenocysteine (Sec) residue at its active site. The selenocysteine is encoded by the UGA codon that normally signals translation termination. The 3' UTR of selenoprotein genes have a common stem-loop structure, the sec insertion sequence (SECIS), that is necessary for the recognition of UGA as a Sec codon rather than as a stop signal. This gene is expressed in a variety of tissues, and the protein is localized to the perinuclear structures. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
