Gastrin (GAST) - Marker for G-cells of the stomach
Gastrin is a peptide hormone that is secreted by specialized G-cells present in the distal part of the stomach (antrum). Gastrin secretion stimulates the release of gastric acid from other specialized cell in the stomach mucosa, the parietal cells. Gastrin also has trophic effects on the mucosa of the stomach and aids in gastric motility during food digestion.
