Malignant gliomas and thyroid cancers along with several cases of malignant melanomas, prostate and endometrial cancers displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining. Most other malignant cells were negative.
Malignant gliomas exhibited strong cytoplasmic positivity. A few cases of malignant carcinoid, melanomas and adenocarcinomas of endometrium, prostate and thyroid were moderately stained. Remaining malignant cells were mainly negative.
Several cases of malignant gliomas were strongly stained. All other malignancies were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
MAP2 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
MAP2A, MAP2B, MAP2C
Description
Microtubule-associated protein 2 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the microtubule-associated protein family. The proteins of this family are thought to be involved in microtubule assembly, which is an essential step in neurogenesis. The products of similar genes in rat and mouse are neuron-specific cytoskeletal proteins that are enriched in dentrites, implicating a role in determining and stabilizing dentritic shape during neuron development. A number of alternatively spliced variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]
