Most of the malignant tissues displayed weak to moderate cytoplasmic. Malignant lymphomas, squamous cell carcinomas, urothelial, ovarian, endometrial and gastric cancers were generally negative.
Cases of ductal breast carcinomas exhibited moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity while cases of hepatocellular carcinomas showed weak cytoplasmic positivity. Malignant cells in general were negative.
A majority of cancers were negative or weakly stained. A majority of malignant gliomas, colorectal and breast cancers as well as several skin and liver cancers showed moderate cytoplasmic and nuclear membranous positivity.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
CRAT (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
CAT1
Description
Carnitine O-acetyltransferase (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes carnitine acetyltransferase (CRAT), which is a key enzyme in the metabolic pathway in mitochondria, peroxisomes and endoplasmic reticulum. CRAT catalyzes the reversible transfer of acyl groups from an acyl-CoA thioester to carnitine and regulates the ratio of acylCoA/CoA in the subcellular compartments. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012]
