Cancer tissues displayed moderate nuclear and cytoplasmic positivity. Strong staining was observed in a few cases of lung, thyroid, testicular, gastric and liver cancers. Lymphomas and renal cancers were mainly negative.
Most of the cancer cells showed weak to moderate nucleolar and/or cytoplasmic positivity. Several seminomas, a few squamous cell carcinomas, melanomas, cholangiocarcinomas, breast, colorectal and urothelial cancers were strongly stained.
The protein encoded by this gene appears to be a nucleolar GTPase that is essential for ribosomal pre-rRNA processing and cell proliferation. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010]
