General cytoplasmic expression, most abundant in CNS and peripheral nerves.
ANTIBODY IHC RELIABILITY
Data reliability description
Antibody staining mainly not consistent with RNA expression data. Caution, targets protein from more than one gene. Presumed off target binding observed and disregarded. External characterization data supports antibody staining.
A few gliomas, carcinoids, cholangiocarcinomas, thyroid, testicular, prostate, ovarian and pancreatic cancers showed weak to moderate staining. Other cancer cells were negative.
Most cancer cells displayed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. A few seminomas and carcinoids were strongly stained. Most hepatocellular carcinomas were negative.
Malignant gliomas, carcinoids and melanomas were strongly stained. Malignant lymphomas, urothelial, renal, gastric, thyroid, ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancers were mostly negative. While remaining malignancies displayed variable staining intensities from strong to negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
TUBB2A (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
dJ40E16.7, TUBB, TUBB2
Description
Tubulin, beta 2A class IIa (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
Microtubules, key participants in processes such as mitosis and intracellular transport, are composed of heterodimers of alpha- and beta-tubulins. The protein encoded by this gene is a beta-tubulin. Defects in this gene are associated with complex cortical dysplasia with other brain malformations-5. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene.
