Cancer tissues displayed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Additional membranous staining was observed in a few cases of colorectal and urothelial cancers. A case of Hodgkin's lymphoma and endometrial cancer were strongly stained. Several cases of gliomas, stomach, renal and pancreatic cancers were negative.
Most cancer tissues showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic staining. Several testicular and urothelial cancers were negative. Additional nuclear staining was observed in a few cases of squamous cell carcinomas of skin.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
PPA2 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
FLJ20459
Description
Pyrophosphatase (inorganic) 2 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
The protein encoded by this gene is localized to the mitochondrion, is highly similar to members of the inorganic pyrophosphatase (PPase) family, and contains the signature sequence essential for the catalytic activity of PPase. PPases catalyze the hydrolysis of pyrophosphate to inorganic phosphate, which is important for the phosphate metabolism of cells. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
