Hepatocellular carcinomas and prostate cancers along with several cases of melanomas, gliomas and carcinoids as well as endometrial and renal cancers displayed moderate to strong granular cytoplasmic positivity. Remaining cancers were weakly stained or negative.
Several cases in most cancer tissues displayed moderate to strong granular cytoplasmic positivity. Rare cases of skin, urothelial and cervical cancers showed moderate cytoplasmic and nuclear positivity. Testicular and colorectal cancers were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
TPP1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
CLN2, SCAR7
Description
Tripeptidyl peptidase I (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the sedolisin family of serine proteases. The protease functions in the lysosome to cleave N-terminal tripeptides from substrates, and has weaker endopeptidase activity. It is synthesized as a catalytically-inactive enzyme which is activated and auto-proteolyzed upon acidification. Mutations in this gene result in late-infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, which is associated with the failure to degrade specific neuropeptides and a subunit of ATP synthase in the lysosome.
