Strong and distinct cytoplasmic and membranous positivity in a varying fraction of all carcinoma types. Melanomas, gliomas, lymphomas and renal clear cell carcinomas were negative.
Most squamous cell carcinomas and cases of urothelial cancer showed strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Remaining malignant tissues were mostly negative.
Ovarian, cervical, urothelial, skin, head and neck and lung carcinomas showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic positivity. Remaining tumor cells were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
KRT14 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
EBS3, EBS4
Description
Keratin 14, type I (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the keratin family, the most diverse group of intermediate filaments. This gene product, a type I keratin, is usually found as a heterotetramer with two keratin 5 molecules, a type II keratin. Together they form the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. Mutations in the genes for these keratins are associated with epidermolysis bullosa simplex. At least one pseudogene has been identified at 17p12-p11. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
