Several cases of squamous cell carcinoma of lung, skin, head and neck cancers along with urothelial cancers showed strong cytoplasmic and nuclear staining. Several squamous cell carcinomas of cervix displayed moderate to strong positivity. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.
Strong nuclear and cytoplasmic immunoreactivity was observed in urothelial cancers, squamous cell carcinomas and a few endometrial cancers. Remaining tumour tissues were in general negative.
Rare cases of urothelial and lung cancer displayed strong cytoplasmic and nuclear positivity. Moderate staining was observed in several cases of squamous cell carcinomas, endometrial, ovarian and urothelial cancers. Remaining cancer cells were weakly stained or negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
S100A2 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
CAN19, S100L
Description
S100 calcium binding protein A2 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may have a tumor suppressor function. Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression of this gene have been implicated in breast cancer. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
