Cytoplasmic expression in several tissues, including neuronal cells in CNS.
ANTIBODY IHC RELIABILITY
Data reliability description
Antibody staining not consistent with RNA expression data. Secreted protein, tissue location of RNA and protein might differ and correlation is complex.
Most cancer tissues exhibited weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity, often with a granular pattern. Rare cases of cholangiocarcinomas, stomach, pancreatic and high grade prostate cancers were strongly stained. Lymphomas and most gliomas along with renal, squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas were negative.
Most cancer cells displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity, often with a granular pattern.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
NTRK1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
MTC, TRK, TRKA
Description
Neurotrophic tyrosine kinase, receptor, type 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the neurotrophic tyrosine kinase receptor (NTKR) family. This kinase is a membrane-bound receptor that, upon neurotrophin binding, phosphorylates itself and members of the MAPK pathway. The presence of this kinase leads to cell differentiation and may play a role in specifying sensory neuron subtypes. Mutations in this gene have been associated with congenital insensitivity to pain, anhidrosis, self-mutilating behavior, mental retardation and cancer. Alternate transcriptional splice variants of this gene have been found, but only three have been characterized to date. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
