Most malignant cells showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. A few cases of testicular and pancreatic cancers exhibited strong staining. Most cases of malignant gliomas, gastric, renal and thyroid were negative.
Cancers displayed weak to moderate nuclear and/or cytoplasmic positivity. Additional membranous staining was observed in colorectal, ovarian, liver, pancreatic and gastric cancers. Renal cancers and lymphomas were mainly negative.
Most cancer cells showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Hepatocellular carcinomas, several colorectal cancers and a few squamous cell carcinomas were strongly stained.

Description

Entrez gene summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytoplasmic nonreceptor protein kinase which may function as an intracellular signal transducer in epithelial tissues. Overexpression of this gene in mammary epithelial cells leads to sensitization of the cells to epidermal growth factor and results in a partially transformed phenotype. Expression of this gene has been detected at low levels in some breast tumors but not in normal breast tissue. The encoded protein has been shown to undergo autophosphorylation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]
