Strong and distinct cytoplasmic and membranous positivity in a varying fraction of all carcinoma types. Melanomas, gliomas, lymphomas and renal clear cell carcinomas were negative.
Most cancer tissues showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and membranous positivity. Gliomas, lymphomas, testis renal and liver cancers were generally negative.
Majority of the cases of cervical, skin, urothelial, lung, head and neck cancers along with few cases of ovarian, pancreatic and liver cancers displayed strong cytoplasmic staining with additional membranous positivity in several cases. Remaining cancer tissues were generally negative.
A majority of skin, urothelial, cervical, lung, pancreatic and head and neck cancers displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and membranous positivity. Additionally, a few cases of breast, ovary and thyroid cancer were moderately stained. Remaining cancer tissues were weakly stained or negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
KRT17 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
PCHC1
Description
Keratin 17, type I (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes the type I intermediate filament chain keratin 17, expressed in nail bed, hair follicle, sebaceous glands, and other epidermal appendages. Mutations in this gene lead to Jackson-Lawler type pachyonychia congenita and steatocystoma multiplex. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008]
