Malignancies exhibited moderate cytoplasmic staining. Papillary adenocarcinomas of thyroid, several ovarian cancers along with a few hepatocellular carcinomas, lung and renal cancers were strongly stained.
Moderate cytoplasmic and/or nuclear immunoreactivity was observed in most malignant cells, with additional membranous positivity in a few cases. Prostate cancers, hepatocellular carcinomas along with a few pancreatic and endometrial cancers were strongly stained. Malignant lymphomas and testicular cancers were weakly stained or negative.
This gene encodes a protein highly similar to the mouse meiosis-specific nuclear structural 1 protein. The mouse protein was shown to be expressed at the pachytene stage during spermatogenesis and may function as a nuclear skeletal protein to regulate nuclear morphology during meiosis.
